History and Overview
In 2009, the Seattle Colleges convened the Chancellor’s Sustainability Initiative Leadership Team from the three colleges to oversee and plan efforts to enhance sustainability in operations and instruction. The Sustainability Initiative led to the creation of the District Sustainability Committee, a representative body of students, staff, and faculty from each of the Seattle Colleges. The District Sustainability Committee is the over-arching sustainability body at the Seattle Colleges. The District Sustainability Coordinator chairs the committee. The committee has three working groups that align with the AASHE STARS framework. Each campus has a sustainability council/committee, which through a liaison help better coordinate campus and district objectives and goals.
